The Morally Confused

This blog post is just another rant demanding the end of government repression of personal freedoms that directly affect our chosen lifestyle, in particular, same-sex marriage and multiple-partner marriage (polygamy), rights denied for reasons of lifestyle choices (LBGT), and any other form of legislated discrimination.

It has been my observation that opposition to personal freedoms of the aforementioned nature can be directly related to a kind of moral confusion that is typically rooted in some form of theism – but probably not exclusively.  Confused because they have allowed their respective dogma to supplant real moral virtues such as love, honor, truth, and so on, with their imaginary virtues of chastity, reverence, servitude, self-sacrifice and other concepts unnatural to human behavior – concepts that are absent any actual moral value.  I refer to this faction of our society as the Morally Confused.

It is clear that the Morally Confused are not confined to any one political party affiliation.  And as a matter of fact, neither official national platform of either of the two major political parties (R), (D) make any reference (support or otherwise) to polygamous or same-sex marriage.    

And notably, elected officials of both Republican and Democrat parties statistically do NOT propose legislation that would legalize such modifications to the marital status.   So where does that leave us on Election Day?  Affiliation with the political party known for its liberal support of “personal freedoms” is not good enough.  It is important to know the individual candidate's position.

I am visiting this planet, just like the rest of you.  I arrived in physical form in an arid zone of the northern half of the western hemisphere. Other beings of the same form maintained my existence until maturation, during which time I learned that others of this species sustain, and maintain the concept of civil government, and that there are imaginary boundaries separating the various peoples associated with their respective government entities. The governed region where I am located is called the "United States." They assigned me a citizen management number for tracking my activities and garnishing a percentage of the bartered currency that I may have exchanged, or will, for services rendered.

The myriad and wide ranging array of philosophical systems, spiritual postulations, systems of government, arts and sciences have fascinated me in my various phases of learning... and still do. However, as much as I enjoy reading and learning about theses topics and disciplines, I don't claim to be a pundit of any, and only express my opinions through writing about my perspective, personal experiences, and the experiences of people I have met, known,  and still know.

I predominantly support libertarian politics (here in America) because of their continued show of support for unbiased equal rights, personal freedoms and liberty for the individual, and their proposals for fiscal responsibility. But I lean toward the liberal side for their general care toward the less fortunate. Politics and government should be about protecting  its citizens and guarding their personal freedoms. I don’t support giving government the power to decide personal issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, or any other aspect of what should always be a matter of personal choice and/or morality.

It is fascinating how many people give serious consideration to their religious beliefs and institutions. Religion is the crucible in which philosophy is made meaningless by virtue of its abandonment of reason and logic. Agnostic atheism and a sprinkling of curiosity and hope about an afterlife of some kind is the only  consideration of spirituality that I am able or care to achieve. Like most sentient beings, I am inherently resistant to the concept of oblivion, consequently I honor my hope for some form of continuance after this body expires. This hope at times draws me into contemplating the concepts of energy and how it relates to living organisms. The electromagnetic spectrum ranging from light to microwaves, to the electrochemical impulses that “drive” neuro-activities – indeed the mechanism that sustains our very thoughts and consciousness. I give an inkling of credibility to the possibility of a sustained existence beyond death because electromagnetic energy can exist without a container - radio waves, light, magnetism, microwaves, all travel and exist in space without any vessel or other medium of containment or support.  That fact alone provides me something to hang my spiritual hat upon – that the electromagnetic energy of my essence will simply become free of its current biological vessel; fun wishful thinking not taken seriously.

But seriously, I believe that we are all connected in the whole cosmic energy sense of it. We are in fact, all children of the cosmic singularity that brought us together at this time in this place in the universe. Someday my corporeal visit here will be over, and the electromagnetic energy of my essence will return to where I was before I arrived, where in time, you and I will meet again.
